This week is going to be a repeat of a theme that I feel like we have to talk about way too often here, but such is the life of a Fantasy Baseball owner?

I feel like we had our occasional injuries here and there the last month or so, but not the onslaught we seemed to get over the last week.

The two major ones are Hunter Pence and David Wright.

I’ll start with Pence. Re-injured his hamstring and this time it is bad. It will require surgery and he is out at least two months.

David Wright is just plain sad at this point. This guy has battled injury after injury the last few years and this time a herniated disk in his neck will sideline him for 6-8 weeks. Honestly I would not be surprised if he never returns to baseball again. Its a shame because he was actually having an OK season compared to what a lot of experts were expecting

Stock Up

Alex Colome, RP, Tampa Bay Rays

Colome has had a great season so far, but I hesitated moving him up my rankings due to the fact that Brad Boxberger was going to be returning and I thought take over the closer role again.

Well Boxberger returned and in his first outing injured his oblique and will need anywhere from 4-8 weeks to recover.

Now my hesitation to not rank Colome where he should have been all along is over. The fact is you can’t argue with a 1.04 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 16 saves and 34 Ks in 26 innings.

Aledmys Diaz, SS, St. Louis Cardinals

Here is another guy that is climbing the rankings due to somebody else’s misfortune.

If you are not away Kolton Wong has not only been terrible this season, he has been sent down to the minors in preparation of Jhonny Peralta’s return (June 7). It looks like the Cardinals will be playing third, while Diaz stays at short.

I always hesitated to move Diaz into the Rest of the Season Fantasy Baseball Top 250 Rankings because I was never sure what they were going to do with him when Peralta returned. Now that we have our answer and it is good news for Diaz, he moves up.

Sonny Gray , SP, Oakland Athletics

Finally some good news for an injury. Gray returned this past Sunday and looked like his old self.

He pitched five innings, striking out five and only walking one.

That is a huge improvement from the guy we saw before the injury. I’m betting this is signs of what is to come and Gray is going to be just fine the rest of the season.

Stock Down

Felix Hernandez, SP, Seattle Mariners

Last week we spoke about Prince, so why not talk about a King this week.

When you look at it overall King Felix has been pretty bad this year.

His ERA is good at 2.86, but the peripherals to go with it do not even come close to support that

The strikeouts are down to 7.57 K/9, his walks are up to a career high of 3.71 and because of that his FIP and xFIP are both at 4.11.

On top of that he is now shut down with a calf injury. The hope is he was going to come off the DL at the minimum 15 days, but that does not appear to be the case since he has not begun throwing.

Luke Gregerson, RP, Houston Astros

Luke Gregerson was awesome to begin the season, but the last half a month he has been awful posting a 6.43 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, blowing two straight save chances in a row too.

Because of this he has been removed from the closers role. The Astros manager has stated that it will be a committee approach with Will Harris, Ken Giles and even Gregerson mixed in.

So where it does not look like Gregerson is completely out of the mix, I’m not betting he gets his job back anytime soon unless both Harris and Giles fall apart.

Jeremy Jeffress, RP, Milwaukee Brewers

He slides down the rankings due to the return of Will Smith.

It was said in the early spring that with the both of them healthy, they would split the save chances.

I’m not sure if that actually happens now that Smith is back, but the threat is there and it makes Jeffress a lot riskier to own going forward.
