2018 Fantasy Golf Part Five: Masters Of The Universe Edition Round 4

If you follow golf like you follow other sports, maybe you’ve got an idea to set up a Fantasy Golf league when the next major rolls around. At the very least, it’s an opportunity to keep research and draft skills sharp during the Fantasy draft hiatus between baseball and football season.

Welcome to SCFE’s 2018 Fantasy Golf Part Five. If you’ve read Parts One through Four, give yourself a golf clap. It you don’t get that reference; we’ll work on it later. If you haven’t read Parts One through Four, spoilers must not bother you.

In Part One, I recapped the results of a live Fantasy Golf draft for the Masters along with the basic rules and scoring. In Part Two, Part Three, and Part Four, I provided the overall standings and scores after each round of the tournament.

I have a hunch there are more than a few people out there who enjoy both golf and Fantasy Sports. Writing these columns was really a spur of the moment thing for me; I just happened to be there when the draft took place. But it did get me thinking. Which can be a dangerous thing.

Why do we take the time and effort to play Fantasy Sports? In part because it’s an extension of the sports we love. If you follow golf like you follow other sports, maybe you’ve got an idea to set up a Fantasy Golf league when the next major rolls around. At the very least, it’s an opportunity to keep research and draft skills sharp during the Fantasy draft hiatus between baseball and football season.

Check out the rules below; they’re fairly simple. Who knows; maybe Fantasy Golf is just the palate cleanser everybody needs once in a while during the long grind of the Fantasy Baseball season. Or it could just add another level of enjoyment for those who love golf. Either way; food for thought.

The 2018 Masters is now the books, and the final scores are posted. Let’s head for the clubhouse with SCFE’s 2018 Fantasy Golf Part Five.

The Format

As explained in Part One, this is a 12-team league with rosters of 7 golfers each. The teams use the lowest 4 golfers’ scores combined over the 4 rounds of the tournament. Lowest overall total at the end of the Masters wins. If a team does not have at least 4 golfers make the cut, however, that team is eliminated from contention.

Below are the final standings and total scores after Round 4. The first column shows the round and pick where each golfer was taken in the draft.

Team names were not chosen by the participants; but were created by this author for purposes of this article to protect the innocent (and the guilty).

And there you have SCFE’s 2018 Fantasy Golf Part Five, with the final Fantasy Golf results from the 2018 Masters. Unlike the Masters tournament, which had some Sunday drama, the top three finishers in this league remained unchanged over the weekend.

Team Dyn-o-mite! led from wire-to-wire; and increased their overall lead each day during the first three rounds. That’s probably what happens when you draft the winner and nail your top three picks. Good Times.

Unlike Fantasy Football and Fantasy Baseball, there is no waiver wire opportunity here. For a single-tournament format (as opposed to season-long), you have to get the draft right. And as those who missed the cut discovered, the draft can be as unforgiving as Judge Smails sending boys younger than Danny Noonan to the gas chamber. He didn’t want to; he felt he owed it to them.

I hope you enjoyed SCFE’s experiment with Fantasy Golf. Maybe we’ll tee it up again for the U.S. Open. Until next time, always remember how to measure yourself against other golfers. By height.
