Wednesday brings another full slate of exciting MLB action, and SCFE is here with our Draftkings Picks For May 17.
Our team is here to help you navigate a slate full of options at every position. After reviewing today’s DFS slate, I’m impressed with how many intriguing pitching options are available today.
Typically when you see Clayton Kershaw on the pitching slate, he’s an automatic start. Even though I love Kershaw against a weak Giants lineup, his high price and the numerous other pitching options makes you think twice.
With the batters on the slate, the main stack I love today is the Detroit Tigers against Ubaldo Jimenez. Jimenez has been terrible in recent years, and has a 6.15 ERA so far this season.
Follow this article for winning DFS advice, and I hope you all make some money with my Draftkings Picks For May 17!
Draftkings Picks For May 17
Clayton Kershaw, LAD @ SF ($14,400)
Even though this is a very high price for a pitcher, Kershaw has been nothing short of outstanding this season. Kershaw gets a road matchup against the Giants, who rank 26th or lower in every major batting category. Even though the Giants have been playing better, I like Kershaw to thrive in this game.
Jason Vargas, KC vs NYY ($8,400)
One of the few bright spots in the Royals season has been the rebirth of Jason Vargas, who has been impressive. Through seven games, Vargas is 5-1 with 39 strikeouts, a 1.01 ERA, and a 0.92 WHIP. Even though Vargas doesn’t overwhelm you with strikeouts, his control this season has been outstanding. Vargas has only given up one run at home this season, and I’ll expect more of the same today.
Other Pitchers I Like
- Lance McCullers, HOU @ MIA ($10,800)
- Ervin Santana, MIN vs COL ($9,500)
- Rick Porcello, BOS @ STL ($9,000)
- Matt Garza, MIL @ SD ($8,200)
- Jesse Hahn, OAK @ SEA ($6,700)
- Joe Biagini, TOR @ ATL ($6,000)
- Michael Pineda, NYY @ KC ($10,100)
J.T. Realmuto, MIA vs HOU ($3,200)
The catcher slate tonight is really poor, so I’m looking for a consistent hitter. Realmuto is hitting an impressive .304 this season, with 15 RBI. Even though McCullers is a tough matchup, I still like Realmuto’s chances of getting on base.
Brian McCann, HOU @ MIA ($3,500)
In a poor catcher slate, I’ll gladly take a player in one of the hottest lineups in the league right now. McCann has produced well this season, hitting .270 with 21 RBI. With this lefty-righty matchup, I like McCann to produce in this hot lineup against a young pitcher.
Other Catchers I Like
- James McCann, DET vs BAL ($3,000)
Miguel Cabrera, DET vs BAL ($4,200)
With the struggling Ubaldo Jimenez on the mound, I love a Detroit Tigers stack today in DFS. Throughout his career, Miggy has hit .319 against Jimenez in 47 at-bats with nine RBI. Considering Jimenez and his 6.15 ERA, I love a stack of Detroit Tigers with a high ceiling in DFS.
Joey Votto, CIN @ CHC ($4,700)
Even with Kyle Hendricks getting his control from last year back, I love Votto in this matchup. Throughout his career, Votto has hit .636 off Hendricks in 11 at-bats, with two RBI and six walks. Votto clearly knows how to get on base against Hendricks, and I’ll expect him to do so frequently today.
Other First Basemen I Like
- Freddie Freeman, ATL vs TOR ($5,200)
- Wil Myers, SD vs MIL ($4,600)
- Eric Thames, MIL @ SD (4,800)
Jose Altuve, HOU @ MIA ($4,700)
Altuve and this Astros lineup has been on fire lately, and I love him in DFS against a young pitcher in Jose Urena. This is the cheapest Altuve’s price tag has been lately, which has helped me jump on him today. With this lineup playing the way they have been, targeting their best player is the way to go.
Ian Kinsler, DET vs BAL ($3,800)
Another great player in the Detroit stack to target is Kinsler, who has lots of history with Jimenez. In his career, Kinsler is hitting .286 in 28 at-bats, and also has a cheap price tag. With this cheap price tag and prime lineup spot, Kinsler is a smart play today in this slate.
Other Second Basemen I Like
- Jason Kipnis, CLE vs TB ($3,700)
- Scooter Gennett, CIN @ CHC ($3,300)
Evan Longoria, TB @ CLE ($4,000)
Longoria has been heating up as of late, scoring double-digit Fantasy points in three of his last four games. He gets a good matchup against Josh Tomlin, who has an ERA of just under six this season. With this matchup, I like Longoria to continue heating up, and scoring double-digit Fantasy points again.
Miguel Sano, MIN vs COL ($4,900)
It’s clear after looking back on the preseason that Sano was the biggest player I was incorrect on this season. Even though opposing pitcher German Marquez has been excellent on the road this season, Sano has been even better. With 10 homers, 30 RBI, and a .297 average, look for Sano to continue his hot season today against Colorado.
Other Third Basemen I Like
- Anthony Rendon, WAS @ PIT ($4,300)
- Jake Lamb, ARI vs NYM ($4,800)
Jean Segura, SEA vs OAK ($4,700)
Through the first month and a half, Segura has been one of the hottest hitters in the league. This season, Segura is hitting .370 with a .922 OPS. Even though Jesse Hahn has been pretty good this season, Seattle will need production from Segura with Robinson Cano on the DL.
Corey Seager, LAD @ SF ($3,600)
Even with Cueto on the mound for the Giants, don’t shy away from Corey Seager of the Dodgers. Cueto has had one decent game and one bad game against the Dodgers this season. With this cheap price tag for Seager, who will hit atop a good lineup, Seager is a great pick for DFS today.
Other Shortstops I Like
- Jose Iglesias, DET vs BAL ($2,600)
J.D. Martinez, DET vs BAL ($4,300)
Another great option in the Detroit stack here is J.D. Martinez, who is finally healthy. The Tigers’ right fielder is hitting .444 in his first three games back, and is hitting .357 against Ubaldo Jimenez in his career. With Martinez’s price tag still low, he is a great investment in DFS today in this slate.
Mike Trout, LAA vs CWS ($5,600)
Mike Trout is killing it right now in the American league, as he has homered in each of his last four games. Even with his rising price tag, the White Sox don’t have a pitcher that scares you. I like Trout to continue this hot streak at home, and is worth paying up for.
Other Outfielders I Like
- Justin Upton, DET vs BAL ($4,100)
- Nelson Cruz, SEA vs OAK ($4,500)
After reading through the article, I hope you understand how many solid pitching options are available today. There are 9-10 pitchers that I like in this slate, so only go for Kershaw if you can spend up really big at pitcher.
With hitting, the Detroit Tigers lineup is definitely worth consideration, and a stack for those who enter multiple lineups. These are my two recommendations for DFS today, so take my Draftkings Picks For May 17 and go craft some winning lineups.
