Few holiday phenomena are more fascinating to me than the Black Friday doorbusters.
I get it. I understand the attraction from the consumer side. And having worked for at least three different major retailers in my life, I understand it from the retailer side.
Retailers can only wish they could do what DFS sites can do. Because DFS offers doorbusters weekly–players that give you all you could want for a highly reduced price. Yet this week might be the most important week to find those so-called doorbusters. The reason is that neither of the major DFS sites has a slate combining all 15 Thursday and Sunday games this week.
Thus, we are doing something a little different this week. I’ll choose a handful of players that top out at $5500 on either site. This will typically cause us to go deeper on FanDuel as you can often get quality players below that level on DraftKings. But the $5500 line typically eliminates at least the five best options for each game.
Whether these doorbusters enable you to manage your cash lineups better or make for great GPP picks I will leave up to you. Let’s open the doors, these doorbusters won’t last long….
Week 12 DFS Picks
Doorbusters: Thanksgiving Day
Rod Smith, RB, Dallas ($3400 DK $5300 FD)
Despite having done very little this season, Smith might be the most intriguing of doorbuster this week. Darren McFadden was a healthy scratch and did Alfred Morris really impress you last week? I’ll spare you additional sentiment and simply provide two simple facts. One, the Chargers are giving up the fourth-most Fantasy points to running backs. Two, Smith is averaging 4.5 YPC this year.
You can do the math for this one, because my next suggestion is far less statistical.
Maurice Harris, WR, Washington ($3000 DK $4700 FD)
I was originally set to select Samaje Perine after checking DraftKings, as their pricing must have been done before the Chris Thompson injury. But then Fan Duel went and priced him about where I expect him to produce. So yeah, go with Perine in Draft Kings. However, we still need a pick, and I’m going with Maurice Harris. When picking from the bargain bin, I like anyone who has the talent to do this….
There are of course some other deep plays you can make before you slip into a tryptophan-induced deep nap. But my better half wants to discuss this evening if we are going to buy any doorbusters this Black Friday, so let’s move on to Sunday, please.
Adam Shaheen, TE, Chicago ($2600 DK $5200 FD)
So I have liked Shaheen since the preseason and I made a tidy profit last weekend because of the inclusion of Shaheen in a lineup or two. No reason to stop liking him, especially against Philadelphia who is very stout against the rush, but not so much against the pass.
Dede Westbrook, WR, Jacksonville ($3600 DK $4900 FD)
Truth be told I actually like Marqise Lee in this game more and he has a much higher floor than Westbrook. Yet Lee’s Fan Duel salary is above our line. Thus, we are scraping the bottom of the WR bargain bin but despite low ownership could have huge production.
With Leonard Fournette still gimpy and going against the sixth most generous Fantasy passing defense in Arizona, I expect to see the Jags take to the air. With Allen Hurns still not likely to play, I expect Westbrook to see a healthy share of targets. It will be very easy for him to return value, even if he only repeats his 7-catch 70 yard line from last week.
Last week was also a good week for the next option on our list of doorbusters.
Duke Johnson, RB, Cleveland ($4600 DK $5500 FD)
Johnson is right at our line on Fan Duel, but makes for a good buy on both sites. Cincinnati is the 10th most charitable team for opposing running backs on the season. Furthermore, they started the giving season early having given up three rushing touchdowns the last two weeks. Don’t be surprised if Johnson scores again this week.
Doorbusters: Monday Night
Danny Woodhead ($4200 DK $5400 FD)
Woodhead presents value on both sites. Woodhead is now healthy and should be a staple in the Baltimore offense. I would be shocked if Woodhead doesn’t provide at least double-digit Fantasy points at home against a banged up Houston defense.
Furthermore, as much as I like Woodhead and the Baltimore offense this week, I like the Baltimore defense more. If you are playing a slate that includes the Baltimore defense as an option, choose it. They too are under our doorbusters price and will be worth snatching.
