The injury bug swept through the majors this past weekend. A slew of injuries happened just on Saturday alone, with a few of those already requiring DL stints.

The Athletics are just getting super unlucky with injuries and it starts with the injury to Sonny Gray. He was already going to be moving down my rankings with yet another poor performance. Now though he is going to be out for a good bit with a right trap injury. Guess this is a good thing, since there was obviously something wrong with Gray.

The other is Josh Reddick who is going to miss at least the next 4-6 weeks with a broken thumb. It could be longer after he sees a specialist on Monday and the official timetable is given.

A non-Oakland player who landed on the DL Sunday is to Ketel Marte. He has not been stealing bases at the rate a lot of us were hoping, but he did steal two this weekend. Of course that is how he landed on the DL, spraining his thumb sliding into second.

Others who are listed as day-to-day, so I did not drop them in the rankings, are: Miguel Cabrera, Christian Yelich, Jung Ho Kang, Hunter Pence, Khris Davis (yes another Athletic), Lucas Duda, Matt Harvey, Jordan Zimmerman… Sigh, I’m sure there are more.

Enough injury news. Let’s move on.

Stock Up

Yu Darvish, SP, Texas Rangers

I wasn’t going to mention Darvish, but after all the bad injury news i just gave above I figured I had to balance it out a little.

Darvish is expected to return from the DL on May 28 to face off against the Pirates.

He has been spectacular in his rehab starts too posting a 1.29 ERA and 15/5 K/BB ratio in 14 innings.

Jeff Samardzija, SP, San Francisco Giants

This is the second week in a row I have put a Giants pitcher on this list, and i’ll be honest with you I never would have though I would put him here.

He has been pretty fantastic this year though and seems to have settled down nicely in San Francisco.

Of course his hold ballpark probably has a lot to do with this, but he is keeping the home runs in check with a near career rate of 0.56 HR per nine.

Mike Moustakas, 3B, Kansas City Royals

I’m very shocked to see him back this quickly. There was next to no news on how long he would be out when the injury first occurred. A fractured thumb made me think it was going to be a lot longer.

Regardless though he is back and ready to build off his early season success.

Stock Down

Jason Heyward, OF, Chicago Cubs

I’ve been sliding Heyward down the rankings just about every week, but this week he takes a rather large tumble, down 38 spots to 110 overall.

Honestly that might be too high still. He is just not a great Fantasy asset, and this one is on me. I didn’t like Heyward early on this preseason, but go talked into him a bit and he started climbing my ranks.

This is one time I really wish I had trusted myself. It happens to all of us I suppose.

Now on top of that he is dealing with bruised ribs, which are only supposed to keep him out 3-5 days. It is still possible though that a trip to the DL is in order for him. Stay tuned.

Albert Pujols, 1B, Los Angeles Angels

Pujols is going to make me eat these words at some point this season, I just know it, yet I’m going to say it anyway.

He is not a starting first baseman in 12 team leagues anymore.

The power is nice, eight home runs and 27 RBI on the season. But yikes that batting average is such a drain.

Honestly though the power numbers are misleading. His slugging is down to a career low .389 right now so he really is just hitting a fairly large amount of his hit balls for home runs right now.

Shawn Tolleson, RP, Texas Rangers

The Rangers have finally removed Tolleson from the closer role this season after he blew two saves in a row in pretty epic fashion.

That was just the nail in the coffin for him, as he saw his ERA rise to 9.20. It was not good before then with a 5.40 ERA.

Needless to say Adrian Beltre is in agreement with the move.

Now it looks like Sam Dyson is going to take over the closer role, so clearly his ranking goes up, while Tolleson completely drops out of the rankings.
