A few days ago, I looked at the top 2017 AFC free agents and trade candidates. Now, I wanted to review the top NFC free agents and trade candidates.
Free agency will kick off on March 9, and it’s going to be wild.
For the NFC in a particular, there are a lot of veteran receivers looking for a new home. While these receivers could just be signed as depth, they may be relied on more if the younger players don’t step up.
There’s also a big-name receiver who isn’t a free agent but just wants out of his contract.
Aside from the wide receivers, there’s two running backs to keep an eye on. They are each coming off of injuries, but each back is still being drafted before Round 5 as of right now.
We have a lot of players to watch, so let’s get right into it…
2017 NFC Free Agents
Will Kirk Cousins Play for the San Francisco 49ers in 2017?
Story lines involving Kirk Cousins seem to change by the hour.
This will either end boringly with Cousins signing a long-term deal with the Washington Redskins, or he will be playing in a new city for the 2017 Fantasy Football season.
The 28-year old quarterback has most often been connected to the San Francisco 49ers.
But there are plenty of quarterback-needy teams that would try to make a deal happen. Cousins may not be considered elite, but he did average 307.3 passing yards per game in 2016, and he added surprising value through rushing the ball.

While we wait for the drama to play out, Fantasy players know this next player will definitely have a new home in 2017…
Will Adrian Peterson Sign with the New England Patriots?
A lot of Fantasy players will draft Adrian Peterson on name recognition alone next year, but he needs to sign with the right team to be worth drafting.
There were reports floating around that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants were interested in Peterson.
But so far, there don’t appear to be any teams dying to sign a 31-year old running back who was only able to play in three games in 2016 because of injuries. Peterson reportedly would consider a discount to play for the New England Patriots, which would seemingly be a good fit.
He seems steep as a third-round pick on FantasyFootballCalculator.com right now. But he did just release the video below to silence his critics.

The next running back to watch is also coming back from injuries. After starting with impressive stats his first two years in the league, he’s been a major let down…
Eddie Lacy May Have to Sign a One-Year Deal
Eddie Lacy has been one of the most disappointing early-round picks of the past two seasons.
And there doesn’t seem to be much interest in the 26-year old back, which could help the Green Bay Packers re-sign him on a cheap deal.
But while the Packers cut James Starks, Lacy could still be in a timeshare.
Green Bay insists Ty Montgomery is a running back, even though he only recorded more than nine carries just once in 2016. He may not hurt Lacy as much in the rushing attack, but he will cut into his receiving totals and make Lacy less valuable in PPR leagues.
Lacy posted a 42-427-4 stat line as a receiver in 2014. Last season, Montgomery hauled in 44 receptions for 348 receiving yards.
The next player has been a solid producer in Fantasy leagues, but he feels he’s not getting enough work…
Teams Are in Hot Pursuit of Brandin Cooks
Brandin Cooks has been a solid producer over the last two seasons in New Orleans.
He wasn’t happy with his role this past season, and he will most likely be playing for a new team in 2017.
Right now, Cooks appears to be headed to either Philadelphia or Tennessee. In those scenarios, Carson Wentz and Marcus Mariota would benefit more from the addition of Cooks than Cooks would from having one of them as his new quarterback.
The New England Patriots are also interested in the 23-year old receiver. The Patriots reportedly offered a package deal for Cooks that included a first-round pick, but it was shot down.
That would be an ideal landing spot, especially if the Patriots wanted him that bad.
The next two receivers to watch are NFC free agents who play on the same team…
Where Will Veterans Pierre Garcon & DeSean Jackon Play in 2017?
Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson are both NFC Free agents to watch from the Washington Redskins. Garcon wanted a trade during the 2016 season, and the brass in Washington has not reached out to him yet.
Garcon isn’t known for his touchdown production. But he would add a solid veteran presence to any team that wouldn’t need to rely on him too heavily.
He only caught three touchdown passes in 2016. But he also led Washington in receptions (79) and receiving yards (1,041).
And for Jackson, he may just be too pricey for Washington to keep around. He posted two 1,000-hard seasons in the last three years, and there will be teams willing to pay up to add him to their roster.
The next receiver to watch had a career year in 2016, even as part of one of the worst offenses in the NFL.
Can Kenny Britt Top his 2017 Numbers?
Kenny Britt had the best season of his career in terms of receptions and receiving yards, posting a 68-1,002-5 stat line.
That’s impressive, considering the Los Angeles Rams finished with a total of just 3,313 passing yards and 14 touchdown passes. It seems like he’s been in the league forever and is much older, but Britt is technically in his prime as a 28-year old receiver.
He was a former first-round pick for a reason, but he hasn’t been in a situation to offer consistent production. The Eagles are reportedly interested in signing Britt, and they may have to if they can’t sign Cooks or Alshon Jeffery.
Will Jacob Tamme Sign with the San Francisco 49ers?
The Atlanta Falcons must feel comfortable enough in the abilities of Austin Hooper to let Jacob Tamme walk.
While never consistently Fantasy relevant, Tamme offered solid performances in Weeks 1-2 last season. However, he didn’t do much after that and was only able to play eight games in 2016 because of a shoulder injury.
So why would Fantasy players want to watch him in 2017?
Tamme could become the newest member of the 49ers, joining his former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Having a coach who already knows his strengths will help his Fantasy value.
In terms of competition, some Fantasy players may be worried about Tamme because of Vance McDonald. But because McDonald only hauled in 24 of his 45 targets (53.3 Ctch%), Shanahan won’t hesitate to turn to Tamme if that happens again in 2017.
If Cousins and Tamme sign with the 49ers, keep Tamme on your radar in 2017 Fantasy Football drafts.
