2018 Fantasy Golf Part Two: Masters Of The Universe Edition Round 1

Unintended consequences aside, Fantasy Golf might be a fun introduction to Fantasy Sports for golf fans who’ve never played before. Or it could be the start of a life-consuming Fantasy Sports obsession. Come on in; the water’s fine.

Welcome to SCFE’s 2018 Fantasy Golf Part Two. In Part One, I recapped the results of a live Fantasy Masters draft I watched from a ringside seat. The basic scoring system is easy to learn and adds another level of interest to Masters weekend. Who knows; it might start a trend.

I once again have to compliment the league’s commissioner, who not only ran the draft but provides the round-by-round daily score updates. When he read Part One in which I said he’s run more drafts than a third world dictator, he decided to write me back as The Czar. I may have just created a supervillain.

Unintended consequences aside, Fantasy Golf might be a fun introduction to Fantasy Sports for golf fans who’ve never played before. Or it could be the start of a life-consuming Fantasy Sports Obsession. Come on in; the water’s fine.

At the very least, no one will have to worry about finding scores. To say the Masters receives extensive media coverage is like saying Keyser Soze had a minor disagreement with that Hungarian mob. If you’ve never seen The Usual Suspects, you need to reconsider your priorities.

The golfers have hit the course down in Augusta, so let’s get the Masters party started with SCFE’s 2018 Fantasy Golf Part Two.

The Format

As explained in Part One, this is a 12-team league with rosters of 7 golfers each. The teams use the lowest 4 golfers’ scores combined over the 4 rounds of the tournament. Lowest overall total at the end of the Masters wins. If a team does not have at least 4 golfers make the cut, however, that team is eliminated from contention.

Those are the Round 1 results brought to you by SCFE’s 2018 Fantasy Golf Part Two. From a Fantasy analysis standpoint, the top teams demonstrate different methods of draft success. Team Dyn-o-mite! had good times and A Rose By Any Other Name came up smelling sweet by nailing their top three picks, which shows the importance of getting things right at the top of the draft. Chong Li, on the other hand, fought their way into the top three by on the strength of mid-to-late round picks, demonstrating the importance of depth.

Like characters on the Walking Dead or Texas Hold ‘Em games, however, things can change and people can start dropping in a hurry. The ride has just begun. Up next are Round 2 scores, when cut day should bring things into clearer focus. Until next time, always remember the Lama’s a big, big hitter.
