Another weekend in the books as we officially flip the calendar to August. You can definitely tell the air is warmer just by glancing at the baseball box scores from the weekend. There were plenty of runs scored on both Friday and Saturday evening. The Yankees remain red hot and the White Sox have cooled off a little, but that doesn’t mean I’m staying completely off the White Sox.

Pitching will come with some big names, but all carry a question mark. I do like Francisco Liriano tonight, as the Cubs strike out a ton but they are heavy into right-handed bats so I don’t think Liriano is a lock either tonight but it’s hard to not like him as the favorite. Anyways, you are here for a reason so let’s look at my Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for the day.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for Monday, August 3, 2015

Pitchers

Corey Kluber, Cleveland Indians– The Angels are in a funk. Who wouldn’t be after facing the likes of Clayton Kershaw and Zach Greinke? However, they struggled against Mat Latos and are in the middle of a six-game losing streak. If you are looking for a case against Kluber, it’s not like the Indians have exactly been world beaters either, but I do like them to get to Garret Richards tonight.

Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners– Do you want a GPP option? Well, look no further. I know, I know, you don’t start pitchers in Colorado, but the King is not your run of the mill pitcher. The Rockies are very right handed and so is Felix. Now, I’m not saying roll him out in cash games but in GPP I think he is worth the risk.

Catchers

Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants– Buster was a triple away from the cycle on Saturday and has really been on fire as of late. He has averaged 10.75 points on DraftKings over his last 8 contests and as always, the Giants are better on the road.

Geovany Soto, Chicago White Sox– He caught yesterday so buyer beware. If he is in the lineup I love what he has been up to. In July, he hit .375 and has continued his torrid pace in early August. I know he bats in the bottom of the order, but that makes for another gpp option.

First Base

Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves– Finally healthy, Freddie came back with a bang. The Braves sorely missed his bat and now with some home cooking against home run prone Matt “T” Cain I look for Freddie to be my main man at first base tonight.

Ben Paulsen, Colorado Rockies– I know we talked about Felix Hernandez earlier, but the same can really be said for Rockies bats tonight. Hernandez has been roughed up a few times this year and this could be one of those nights. The price on Paulsen is hard to ignore despite facing Felix.

Second Base

Neil Walker, Pittsburgh Pirates– I will be looking to target Pirates tonight and Walker will be on the forefront of that mission. In his last 7 games, he has hit 2 home runs and 8 RBI’s.

Martin Prado, Miami Marlins– He really hasn’t done anything noteworthy lately, but he does bat near the top of the order and he will get fed fastballs by Bartolo Colon. I’m mentioning him strictly based on price and spot in the order.

Third Base

Evan Longoria, Tampa Bay Rays– Longo has hit .346 over his last 7 games with 2 home runs and 3 RBI’s. He gets a nice park shift to Chicago where there are runs to be had.

Anthony Rendon, Washington Nationals– Much like Prado, Rendon hasn’t done much lately, but he is healthy again and did touch up Noah Syndergaard. The price point is great considering where he is batting in the order and Zack Godley is due for a correction.

Shortstops

Ketel Marte, Seattle Mariners– This hinges on Robinson Cano’s status, but Marte is the absolute minimum on DraftKings. His price on FanDuel is a lot more aggressive, but if Marte plays I expect his ownership to be about 60 to 70% on DraftKings. He was hitting lead-off against the Twins all weekend.

Jung Ho Kang, Pittsburgh Pirates– Over the last week Kang is batting .346 and slugging .808. In that span he has hit 3 homeruns. As I said before I love the Pirates tonight against Jon Lester.

Outfielders

Matt Kemp, San Diego Padres– Kemp is starting to come back to life a little bit here. I like the park shift he gets in Milwaukee and Wily Peralta isn’t exactly lights out.

Billy Burns, Oakland A’s– Burns scuffled a bit against Cleveland, but I look for a correction tonight against Tyler Wilson. Wilson is getting a spot start tonight against some crafty A’s bats and Burns is the type of guy you want. He gets XBH and will swipe bags. He’s a cheap Jacoby Ellsbury.

Nelson Cruz, Seattle Mariners– Get the Wallets out. Cruz isn’t cheap, but he is almost is a must. I can’t imagine a situation where he is faded. He’s going to be heavily used in cash and in tournaments.

Top Stacks (Not in Colorado)

Chicago White Sox

Pittsburgh Pirates (Stolen bases off of Lester)

San Francisco Giants

Best of luck tonight and I hope you enjoyed my Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for Monday, August 3rd.
