DiamondDraft 2014 Fantasy Baseball Dollar Values: Catcher

It’s 2015, but a look back at 2014 can be a huge asset in developing your rankings and dollar values for this season.

2014 fantasy baseball dollar values for catcher

I know it’s 2015 and I realize you’re probably more interested in this year’s rankings (Here are ours), but sometimes I think it helps Fantasy owners to look back and see just how the values looked the previous season. As Fantasy owners we are always looking at rankings and dollar values, but I don’t think a lot of people realize where those values come from. That’s the goal here; to see how the stat lines impact the relative player values.

The tool I’m using to look at these values is DiamondDraft Fantasy Baseball Software. DiamondDraft’s primary focus is to help Fantasy players in both the preparation for Fantasy auctions and during the actual auction process. I use this software for a lot more than that, though. I use it to do my projections, build my cheat sheets, and also use it for a few regular snake drafts. I used to be a pencil and paper kind of guy, but the advantages of DiamondDraft are just too much to ignore.

About these Fantasy Baseball Dollar Values

Since these values are based on statistics that are already in the books, they might look different than what you’re used to seeing. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you look at the values:

  • These values assume a 70/30 hitting/pitching split based on 12-team leagues with $260 per owner.
  • If we were using these values for a future draft we might use position scarcity to alter the values, here I just want to see the value of their raw numbers, so there is no extra weight given to any particular position. It is just their value within the given player pool.
  • You will see negative values. In an auction, every player will have a value of at least $1 because that’s the minimum bid. For our purposes we need to see just how much some of these catchers actually hurt your team.
  • The values for catchers in mixed leagues are lower, with more players having negative values. Replacement level is much higher in mixed leagues and the offense you get from the catcher position just can’t keep up.
  • In AL and NL-only leagues the talent at other positions is thinned out, thus even the low production of No. 2 Fantasy catchers usually has positive values.
