Welcome to the Fantasy Baseball Hitting Planner for Week 18!
Each week, we try to point out the best set of hitters to target, so check back every Friday.
In a week since the trade deadline, several highly touted pitching prospects received their call to the majors. Henry Owens (Red Sox), Luis Severino (Yankees), Jon Gray (Rockies) and Daniel Norris (Tigers) all found their way into their respected teams rotation. With youth, however, comes inexperience, and with inexperience comes vulnerability. And a vulnerable pitcher makes a great target for our weekly Hitting Planner.
Diving into the matchups, the Padres get perhaps the best slate of the week as they host the Reds, then on the road to play the Rockies. While the Mets start the week with a four-games series at home against the Rockies and end their home stand against the Pirates. The Rangers, too, have a favorable Week 18 schedule as they are on the road against the Twins and home against the Rays.
There are plenty of interesting matchups to exploit so let’s jump into the best hitter matchups for Week 18!
Fantasy Baseball Week 18 Hitting Planner
Travis d’Arnaud, C, New York Mets
Travis d’Arnaud recently returned from the disabled list and is set to receive the bulk of the time behind the plate. In Week 18, d’Arnaud and the Mets will faceoff against a terrible Rockies’ pitching staff and a Pirates’ staff who ranks as the fifth worst in baseball since the All-Star break. If you’re looking for help at catcher in Week 18, d’Arnaud is your guy.
Michael Cuddyer, OF, New York Mets
Cuddyer is set to return from the disabled list by this weekend and is returning at a perfect time for your Week 18 lineup. For the exact same reasons as d’Arnaud, Cuddyer will get two great matchups at home against two porous pitching staffs. He should continue to bat in the heart of the Mets lineup, upon his return, and provide you with a ton of run-producing opportunities.
Yangervis Solarte, 1B/2B/3B, San Diego Padres
Solarte has been scorching at the plate of late, hitting .400 over the past week, with two homers and six RBIs. He and the Padres with face a Rockies and Reds pitching staff that continues to rank among the worst in baseball. Solarte’s spot in the lineup also remains favorable as he is seeing time as the two-hitter, likely providing him plenty of at-bats and run-scoring opportunities on a dream slate in Week 18.
Domonic Brown, OF, Philadelphia Phillies
Dare I say that the Great Dom Brown might be coming back to life? A recent hot streak over the past week has put Brown back on the Fantasy radar. Since the end of July, Brown has clubbed three homers and 10 RBIs while hitting .300. The Phillies are set to face the Diamondbacks and Brewers – two great matchups – in Week 18, setting Brown up for a potential monster week. If you’re looking for an upside OF play for the upcoming week, Brown is your guy.
Jed Lowrie, SS/3B, Houston Astros
Since returning from the disabled list, Lowrie has been the primary option at the hot corner. Over the past week Lowrie has hit .294 with an RBI and five runs scored. Looking ahead to Week 18, Lowrie and the Astros with face the Giants in a two-game series, then home against the Tigers, who rank fourth worst in pitching since the All-Star break.
Good luck in Week 18 and let our Hitting Planner show you the way, and may your hitters find the bleachers more than they find double-play grounders!
