Last week we asked a few of the top Fantasy Baseball experts in the industry to rank their Top 20 catchers for the 2016 season. The results were surprising consistent overall, with only 23 players even getting ranked.
The group also agreed without exception that Buster Posey, was the top catcher. Brian McCann ended up second overall and was ranked no lower than fifth by any of the panel.
It was when we got to the rest of the catcher field that things seemed to get interesting and that’s what a few of us talked about on the Fantasy Insiders Show this past Monday.
Hosts Joel Henard and Mike Hilbig welcomed Ray Guilfoyle of Fake Teams, and myself to share our thoughts on the catchers and the rankings.
Kyle Schwarber and his accompanying hype machine were the first topic of conversation. It’s my contention that Schwarber is the Chuck Norris of Fantasy Baseball. The others like the young buck, but have tempered their expectations just a bit.
Other catchers that seem to be stirring the pot are Devin Mesoraco and his 80-year-old hip, Derek Norris and his schizophrenic career. Marlins rookie J.T. Realmuto was offered up both as a sleeper and a bust.
Give the podcast podcast a listen and make sure to check back next week when we continue our series of offseason Fantasy Baseball Rankings with a look at first base.
