Week 5 Daily Fantasy Football is here and players are starting to establish themselves. Some are showing consistency and some are showing up and down performances week to week.
In Daily Fantasy Football, consistency doesn’t really apply, you just want to find a player that is going to put up good numbers this particular week.
Let’s get to finding this weeks big time WRs who return good value and which WRs to avoid this week.
Week 5 teams on Bye: Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets.
All prices are based on Fanduel pricing.
Week 5 Daily Fantasy Football
3 Value Wide Receivers
Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals ($8,100)
Johnson has faced some pretty tough secondaries so far in this young NFL season. Johnson is averaging 11 targets per game and has five red zone targets for the year so far. Coming off a tough Monday night loss could lead to the Lions coming out angry this week and they have a good match up vs the Arizona Cardinals. Detroit has a lower team total than I usually target (21 points), but I just think the Lions offense gets going this week and Calvin will put up a big game.
Jordan Matthews, Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints ($6,800)
The Eagles offense has only played well one half at a time. Coming back home for a game against the Saints could be exactly what this Philadelphia offense needs to get going. The Eagles have a projected team total of 27 points and an over/under of 49.5 points for the game. This should be a shoot out and I can see Matthews putting up a big stat line. Matthews is clearly the most targeted WR in the Eagles offense and the Saints secondary is nothing to write home about.
James Jones, Green Bay Packers vs. St. Louis Rams ($6,400)
Jones is clearly the second best WR on the Packers and is getting targeted in the end zone. He is this years version of the 2014 Randall Cobb (12 TDs). His price should be a lot higher as Jones is a good bet to score a TD any given week. Plus he has a pretty good QB throwing him the ball. He is a solid play at this price range in all formats.
3 Wide Receivers to Avoid
Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers at San Diego Chargers ($8,600)
Michael Vick showed last week that he is probably not going to be able to get Brown the ball to make big plays. The Chargers have been shutting down top WRs this year and until Big Ben comes back, I am not playing Brown until Vick shows me he can get him the ball and put him in position to make plays.
Pivot to Randall Cobb ($8,200)
DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts ($8,000)
Hopkins has been great so far this year but I am avoiding him this week for three reasons. 1)Arian Foster is back and the Texans will probably lean heavily on him to shorten the game. 2) Vontae Davis will be covering Hopkins and Davis is a very solid DB. 3) Nate Washington and Cecil Shorts are both out for their Thursday math-up, so, there is no way the Colts are gonna let Hopkins beat them.
Pivot to Julian Edelman ($7,700)
Keenan Allen, San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($7,700)
Keenan Allen has been great this year, but Antonio Gates comes back this week. Phillip Rivers and Gates have a great rapport and I think that hurts Allen’s value. I am going to avoid Allen until I see how his role plays out with Gates back.
Pivot to Mike Evans ($7,500)
Good luck this week everyone and if you have any questions tweet me @ChrisFromSI
